iThemba – Inauguration of the pre-school in Philippi, Capetown

The inauguration of the English pre-school in Philippi had been anticipated eagerly by everybody. The children enjoyed the day just as well as the many guests.

Classes had already started a couple of months before, to make sure the children have enough time to prepare for their primary school enrolment in two years. The official inauguration was postponed to a later date because the South African winter weather would have put a damper on the spirit.

Wonderful spring weather accompanied the event. The children played on the bouncing castle outside, while the grownups listened to the inaugural speeches.

The project, which belongs to HelpAlliance since spring of this year, has been so successful that already 26 children attend the classes instead of the planned 20. The head of the school, Nadia Lubowski, points out that another 80 children are on the waiting list.

The collaboration with the colleagues of the Lufthansa Call Center in Cape Town has proven to be very productive and we hope that HelpAlliance can continue to financially support the pre-school in the future.
