Soon, circumstances might change for thousands of traumatized children who have lost nearly everything in the earthquake of Haiti.

The HelpAlliance participates in the acquirement of school materials together with the “Salesians Don Bosco”. The sets are named “school in a bag” and are perfectly suitable to be used in any kind of environment – for instance at the curb side, under a tree or in one of the tent camps.

A set contains school materials (exercise books, books, pencils, ruler, writing pads, chalk etc.) for one teacher and 40 students. The shipment will be carried out from China and will be on site in three months approximately. 300 of these sets are financed by the HelpAlliance that will approach 12,000 children in Port-au-Prince and in the neighborhood.

The goal of this activity is to bring back a bit of normality into the everyday life of these children. Children need structures and a perspective, especially in order to leave their trauma behind.

Many of them have not only lost their homes, but also family members and the chaos that is still present, will stay part of their life for quite some time. But a first important step into the future will be possible with the “school in a bag” initiative.
