HelpAlliance project
Obizi - schools and a hospital in Nigeria
The Obizi People Health Centre in Nigeria provides health care for the inhabitants of Obizi. HelpAlliance was able to finance much of the expansion of the centre. At present, we are also supporting a number of educational measures.
The region in which Obizi is located will still be familiar to many people as Biafra. Even today, the region has not recovered completely from the damage caused during the war of independence.
The Obizi community is home to about 25,000 people, more than half of whom are under 16 years of age. For many years HelpAlliance has been supporting the Obizi People Health Centre. The child mortality rate here is very high. Malaria, tuberculosis and polio are widespread. The bush hospital carries out vaccinations and treatments, and makes an important contribution towards improving the lives of the local people.
However, health is not the only factor that helps to make a lasting improvement in living conditions. Education also plays a fundamental role. Therefore, schools are being renovated and further support in this field is planned.
