HelpAlliance project
Family Singers - Children Help Children
For the most part, the association helps Rumanian children and young people. HelpAlliance finances aid transports in order to support facilities for street children, orphans and the handicapped.
Since the founding of HelpAlliance in 1999, the Frankfurt-based charitable organisation "Family Singers - Kinder helfen Kindern" (Children Help Children) has been working with Lufthansa staff on aid projects to alleviate poverty and help people in need.
So far HelpAlliance donations have enabled "Family Singers" to send more than 20 transports with relief aid to Rumania. That is equivalent to about 400 metric tons.
Voluntary local staff receive the transports and distribute the aid, most of which has been donated, to where it is most needed. The list of the items needed is long and includes hospital beds, medical equipment and wheelchairs, as well as computers, food, clothing and household items.
In Bacau, Family Singers are supporting a transit home for adult orphans who are receiving a training. There is also a computer centre for children.
In cooperation with the municipal authorities in Bucharest, clothing and other essential items are distributed to poor families.
In Oradea, Family Singers helps the local social services to distribute the relief supplies to needy institutions and families. Once a year, at Easter, free meals are provided for poor people and the homeless. In Bacau there is also a computer centre.
In Brasov, support - in addition to the distribution of the aid sent by the Family Singers - encompasses:
- monthly birthday parties and events for children in orphanages at Christmas, at Easter and on other occasions
- swimming lessons and computer training for needy children and orphans
Recently, Family Singers have started to support the project Care for Kids in Sambia. The project runs a village for aids orphans on an old farm.
