Blue Bell Kindergarden

Mombasa – Kenia

It is with great commitment that colleagues from Lufthansa and Condor support the Blue Bell Kindergarten, which takes care of Aids orphans and small children in Mtwapa near Mombasa, Kenya.

In the year 2006 two Condor flight attendants began to support a primary school in Mtwapa/Kenia , the “Blue Bell Kindergarten”.
During many layovers in Mombasa – one flight attendant was there almost monthly – the project made very good progress. The HelpAlliance funds were used to improve the hygienic conditions and nutrition, for medical care and for school furniture such as chairs, books and writing material.
At the moment there are 163 children (instead of 48 before) from the age of 2-9 in four classes. They divided depending on their age and supervised by 6 teachers from Monday till Friday from 7am to 6pm. On the large estate there are three monkey bars. The colleagues from Condor have the goal to provide a better interior this year, to finish the sanitary units and to find out the possibilities of installing water pipes.
The trusting relationship between the flight attendants, the principal and the teachers, as well as the collective success, are very motivating for all involved. Despite all difficulties like the recent political situation and trouble finding the right property for the development of the school, there was continuous tuition. Thanks to the persistence of Grace, the principal! We are sure the children are aware of this, too.
