Street Children Project in Mexico City
Mexico – Mexico City
Since December 2009 HelpAlliance has been supporting the cause of two flight attendants that have been campaigning for a street children project in Mexico City.
Working mothers who have to financially support their families, can leave their children here under supervised care during the entire day. Besides receiving basics like meals and homework help, the children receive computer instruction and musical encouragement. The assistance does not only focus on the children, but includes the whole family. Families are educated about healthy nutrition, working with a budget, and contraception. The parents are also informed about the importance of regular school attendance to give their children a perspective for the future.
At present, the project consists of three corrugated metal containers and supervises over 200 children – the wait list is long. Unfortunately more children have not been accepted due to the lack of space.
HelpAlliance is supporting the project through the construction of two additional containers. An additional 46 children can be accepted into the program and supervised.
The „Centro Leonardo Murialdo“ is located in a social trouble spot in Mexico City and is an important contributor to lessening the many struggles of needy families.
