HelpAlliance supported project
Lulu High School
In June 2007, HelpAlliance has supported, for the first time, the charity „Watoto“, founded in 1993 by Lufthansa staff member Mekaela Wentzel. As a result of the good quality education at Lulu High School the children of the region are offered the opportunity to acquire a good job or even have the possibility to enter university education.
The principle objective of the Lulu High School is to provide all children of the region - in particular the poorest – with an equal chance of excellent education. Thus they are put into the position of getting a job after graduating, starting their own business and thereby creating new jobs or attaining an academic degree at university or college. Evidence of the high standard of education is provided by the fact that the primary schools of this project in the province of Kwale have been achieving the top results in the national final exams since 2002. About a third of the 1,100 Children of the four schools are sponsored by scholarships.
March 2005 saw the opening of the Lulu High School and with it opened the way to an academic career. With the support of Help Alliance, Lulu High School could finish their chemistry lab and therefore has now the permission to hold the baccalaureate exams.
Within the next two years, Lulu High school aims at getting the status of a “National School”, the highest rank of a secondary school in Kenya. Then even scholarships at European Universities are attainable.
That is what Rukia managed to achieve this year. She intends to work as a gynaecologist in Kenya after finishing her medical studies in Russia.
