HelpAlliance supported project
„Pueblo Project“ - HelpAlliance is building a new family home
With the financial support of HelpAlliance a new home for a family of six is presently being built. This is implemented by the “Pueblo Project”, a non profit organisation which was founded in 2003 in the Dominican Republic.
Far away from tourist hot spots in the mountain region of Jamao del Norte, lies the village of Saladillo. Housing there is deficient and unhygienic, the inhabitants are often unemployed and the education opportunities for the children are poor.
With the help of voluntary students groups who spend a few weeks in the village, the founder of Pueblo Project, Michael Brown, wants to build a model village in which there are not only better standards of living but also the inhabitants themselves having a greater awareness of hygiene-, health- and environmental issues.
With the joint effort of students and local workers new houses are being built which are equipped with running water and sanitation.
In addition the children receive lessons in English and the Pueblo Project team playfully develop their comprehension and linguistic skills. This will increase their chances of education and of eventually getting a job.
