Nasca - Peru

Help for Pachamama

After the latest earthquake in Peru the project which was founded there in Nasca by the retired colleague Nicky Mügge-Bruckert, got into financial troubles.

Therefore, HelpAlliance supported this project with donation in kind as well as with financial means for the first time in 2005. Thus a car for the transportation of the children could be purchased and a new move could be made towards the reconstruction of the hostel for street children.

The target of ASOCIACION PACHAMAMA e.V. founded in 1990 is to disclose new professional and social perspectives for orphans and problem children as well as to support needy families in Nasca and environs and help developing medical infrastructure in this region.

Pachamama concentrates its efforts on various projects. One of these is the children’s day care home, where classrooms, as well as computer premises, an art class as well as a sewing school can be found. Approx. 80 children benefit from the facility and obtain additional lessons as well as school materials, food and clothing.

Since August 2000 the Albergue Pachamama, a children’s home for orphans and problematic children, accommodates orphans and children with a problematic background. The Asociación Pachamama has the possibility to treat and ease children having traumatic experiences with the dedication of skilled personnel (psychologist, doctor, social worker) and by letting them live on the premises of the Albergue. The children’s home had become uninhabitable after the earthquake of 2005. The reconstruction is still lasting, as the financial expenses are enormous und the latest earthquake in the summer of 2007 even brought an aggravation of the tensed situation.

In urgent cases, the Acociación Pachamama tries to help families directly in cooperation with the municipal authorities. In individual cases the cost for food and medicine is also borne by the organization. Even clothing donations are distributed to these affected families. Already several times Pachamama could guarantee proper medical care through the intervention of interested medical specialists, otherwise the treatments would have been exorbitant for the afflicted.

In Germany lots of material that cannot be found in Peru is gathered again and again, e.g. the volunteer fire brigade could be supplied with common fire extinguishing material or the hospitals in Nasca and Marcona were provided with medical devices and hospital requirements.
